Driving Vision Assistance System Included in Large Vehicle Driver’s License Exam Scoring Criteria
Starting February 1, 2021, the Driving Vision Assistance System is officially included as part of the scoring criteria for large vehicle driver's license exams. Li Rui-Ming, Director of the Kaohsiung Motor Vehicle Office, stated that to help large vehicle drivers develop good habits and stay aware of people and vehicles around the vehicle body, the new regulations include checking the "Driving Vision Assistance System." This is evaluated through verbal recitation during the exam, where the recited content must at least include the key phrase "Driving Vision." Due to the larger size of large vehicle models and the elevated view of their drivers, blind spots directly in front of the vehicle are often overlooked. As a result, many traffic accidents typically occur when the vehicle starts moving after a stop, turns, or changes lanes, relying only on rearview mirrors, which offer limited angles and fail to detect vehicles and pedestrians on the outer sides. Both current and newly manufactured large vehicles are required to be equipped with the "Driving Vision Assistance System." Drivers must be familiar with the structure, equipment, and operational methods of various types of systems before undergoing training and obtaining their driver's license. Safety awareness and defensive driving concepts are indispensable for large vehicle drivers. Anticipating and preventing dangers not only protects themselves but also ensures the safety of other road users.
